There are basically four ways to go Cameron Highlands:
This route to Cameron Highlands is done via the PLUS North-South Highway where you can choose to exit the highway either via the Tapah toll exit or the Simpang Pulai toll exit. Choice of route will depend on your driving skill and whether you are able to handle the zig-zag road way.
This route to Cameron Highlands has been around for a long time. The road is winding and rather narrow. It takes approximately ninety minutes to travel from Tapah to Cameron Highlands. You will need considerable driving skill if you need to overtake slower vehicles especially if you are trying to overtake lorries and buses and semi slow vehicles that won't let you pass.
Use this route when:
This way to Cameron Highlands is newer and wider than the Tapah route. Some stretches of the Simpang Pulai route has overtaking lanes making it easier to pass slower vehicles. In addition you get less obstructed view of the highlands and therefore enjoy the nice scenery enroute.
Drawback of using this way to Cameron Highlands:
The Gua Musang road is a continuation of the Simpang Pulai road. From Cameron Highlands it will take you to Gua Musang town and from there to the East Coast of Malaysia where you can head to Kelantan and Terengganu.
This is a new road just open around August 2010 that connects from Raub, Bentong and Kuala Lipis to Bertam Valley in Cameron Highlands. This route will take you further in to Pahang state and onwards to Kuantan. It will save hours of travelling by avoiding the long way round trip from Karak Highway to Batu Caves and from there connect back to the North-South highway to Tapah or Simpang Pulai exit.
